The real side of success

So this time I am gonna tell you about my failures. Everything that you really want to achieve, you might fail several times and then you will success eventually with persistence, there is a Japonese quote that I love that says: ‘Discipline prevails over intelligence”. You might be brilliant but if you don’t work enough in your skills you might be substitute by someone who is always willing to learn and to keep working on those low skills.

Look at successful people like entrepreneurs, athletes, designers, actor, writers, etc…
It is really amazing what they have now, but how many time they have to work more than 12 hours a day in order to achieve what they have or what they are right now. For athletes is easy to see they have to train every single day, but what about entrepreneurs, writers? How many times they have been rejected?

I am gonna tell you how I failed has a junior developer. So I am really proud to say that I have failed as a developer. In my path of being a self-tough developer what I have learned is that if you are really passion about something. You will continue working on what you want.
I have been learning the last 3 years. I graduated as an electrical engineer, but once I was working as a engineer it wasn’t what I expected. So in that moment I felt lost and I didn’t know what to do, at that time I got in love with technology. I always want to learn more and more about technology, that got me really really bad. After that I knew that mobile development is something that I want to do for my whole life. I gathered with my developer friends that have an start up to drive me more in to coding. It was great to be guided in that moment. The first moment I created a simple layout in Android Studio was like magic for me. I couldn’t believe a simple lines of code make something so amazing.
That was because I was on an Android developer super fast course for advanced programmers.

After three months I decided to keep moving as a freelancer. Basically my first project was a simple screen in Ionic, It took me 1 week to make just a simple layout. The client was really happy with my work, so I was really happy to achieve something so big for me. maybe  is basic but I wasn’t really an expert. Then I met more developers friends, going to meetings. I found a job of Mobile developer in a start up that wants me to build a new application and choose which technology would be better. Basically I was learning React, React Native and ES6 at the same time. I passed a hard time working on average more than 12 hours. After two weeks I didn’t have anything done yet. I was still studying and learning about everything. Then the pressured wasn’t really helpful. So a month after I was hired, I was fired. They really wanted the things getting done quick but they knew that I wasn’t an expert. So that was my first failure as a developer in the tech industry. I felt really really bad because I gave a 100% of me and I couldn’t get done the things. But something inside me knew that I was improving myself so fast. Even tho I did not accomplish my job, I knew that I was a better developer than a month ago. So I didn’t give up, I just kept pushing and keep coding as a I love to do it.
Then I just kept searching for freelance jobs online. After a month, I found a great job as a freelancer, this time was with react in web, so I had to study a lot. In this job, I had a great boss, really a great guy. But I took the wrong decision and I didn’t pay too much attention to my work. I was focus on a volunteer job, so I after 3 months on that job I was fired, but this time I didn’t give my 100%.

No matter what have happened before or who you were, what it really matters is what you are doing. You actions is what really matters. So with that in mind I focused on my portfolio. Study and keep coding as I love to. I had to move out. So I was looking for a full time job, I knew It was time to move forward. I failed an excessive amount of programming test, as a Front-End Developer and mobile developer. But in the process I became really good solving algorithms problems (in my spare time I still like to do it). I was enjoyed the process and not really paying to much attention to the final result.

Two months after I was having two big opportunities as a full time developer. Practice is what really matters. In my new place I found a developer job, but a week after I was hired by a start up in Europe. That was my dream came true. But the things it wasn’t as I expected so I had to work remotely with this company that needs quick results. I was ready to take the challenge. For months I was just focus on working on refactoring and creating new things, in a whole new code. I wasn’t easy at all, it took me 3 weeks to finish my 1 week task. Things weren’t as I expected so my boss was really honest with me and told me that expected more of my position. After that I got shocked I knew that I had to work even harder. I worked on weekends, getting really involved with my work, pretty much working in average 14 hours. For 3 weeks more I was giving 100% of me, I was fired again, but I didn’t feel regret about that. I was happy with my results I knew that I could improve myself, so I did it.

No matter what happen your mindset has to be consistent, you always have to give it all. Right now I am still a mobile developer, in a start up. So in summary you always have to be willing to keep moving. I took an inspiration about a friend look at this. And If you want to know the source is this.

So that’s all my story about how I have failed several times. Don’t be afraid of that, also If you want to share your story I would love to read about it.

See you next time.
